Crises
Once you have reached the Mining tab, each new day has a 2% chance of a crisis, if none is on. A crisis slows some of your production for a number of days. It shows on the calendar line on the right (hover it to see what it does and how long is left), and in the tooltips of the resources it hits.
Each crisis has a counter: while you have it, the crisis takes only half as much.

The Calm seasons laurel perk makes every crisis last half as long.
Small happenings
Now and then something small happens in the garden and is written in the log. Some bring a little with them.
